We did our first AxTi.Me event on Sunday and everything ran REALLY well. I'll post more details about the experience elsewhere on the Board, but for this thread, I thought I should report on the equipment in play:
- We used a data connection to live.axti.me, electing to avoid the complication of providing wifi to participants. Everyone had coverage, everyone was happy.
- Data link was provided by my wife's iphone acting as hotspot over USB to the main timing laptop
- I setup windows internet connection sharing on the main laptop so that it would act as the DHCP server. The router (Asus RT-AC68) was acting as a WiFi access point only. This was not ideal as I would have preferred having the Router act as DHCP provider, but in that role, all internet traffic would go there, rather than through the iphone. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know.
- Main (admin and timer) and secondary (cone counter) laptops attached to router LAN ports. Car staging (old playbook and surface pro) and announcer (ipad and samsung phone) were connected via wifi.
Again, the ideal would be to have hotspot connected to the router in order to share the data connection, but not sure how to do that yet.
We had no IT issues, but did have some Timing hardware issues, which I'll post about later.
Having done an event this way, the idea of providing wifi coverage to competitors is dead to me. We'll use data and let everyone have coverage where ever they are, even at home on their computer.
Everyone loved live.axti.me! The only issue is that for some reason, the results aren't visible today. I see them if I log-in, but a generic visitor doesn't see them under recent events.
