Our Club, long time users of Axware, has only just disovered AXTI.ME and we are giving serious consideration to switching. I'm trying to construct a budget for conversion so that we can take an informed decision.
Some info on us:
- list itemWe use RaceAmerica TLink2 units with the 2X RF output in the 900MHz band.
- list itemAs far as computer, we just ordered the top of the line Lenovo Z70 with Windows 8.
- list itemPower comes from a 2000W Honda generator/inverter. We do not run any power conditioning or UPS.
- list itemOur events are typically 90 to 120 participants and our lot will often preclude line of sight from the timing tent to the paddock area. We run 7 to 8 events per season (in Canada, our season is short).
If you'd like to see our venues, here are a couple of google links:
Lot 9: our primary home: Paddock is normally in the southern most bit, close to the road and timing tent is normally in the middle of the lot.
Lots 4&5: our backup: This lot can be affected by a police station just to the west. Sometimes all wireless transmissions are suppressed and nothing works, forcing us to go to stop watches.
From what I've read on this site, the recommendation is to have the following for AXTI.ME
- router with DD-WRT
- two WAPs
- a switch
I'm wondering if there are particular routers, switches, and WAPs that are verified to be solid set-ups, or if there are particular parts that are better or worse suited to the lots we use, where we often do not have line of sight, where there are cell phone towers, and metal fences. I'd like to price these things out.
Also, are there other things we should consider (e.g., tripods to hold WAPs)? We already operate under a tent for sun and water shelter.
Thank you for your time and support in this matter.
