I'm a tinkerer and love little tiny computers. We live in such a great time for this. I've been chasing the dream of creating a low cost, low energy hardware solution since I started down this path.
With tiny computers like Raspberry Pi 2, BeagleBoard, Intel Nuc and Intel Edison, there are tons of options now to play with.
I've done the Intel NUC... it is super fast, small, and cheaper considering the bang-for-buck. I built a complete machine with a 21" touchscreen for around $600. It is awesome and beats most laptops out there.
My next project is around the super cheap computers, RP2, BeagleBoard and intel Edison.
I'm creating this thread so those interested can track my progress and findings. If these end up being able to run everything, you could have an AXti.me RM headless, always-on server for under $100!
My concept is simply to create a hardware device that you just turn on and then connect to it via any desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone web browser. The target audience is tinkerers and small clubs. Instead of that hefty laptop, you would have a palm sized device that you simply plug into your network and presto-magico, you have AXti.me running.
